Blower wheel repair

After my last post with you regarding a noisy dryer, we agreed that the blower wheel was wearing out in the center. I ordered the new wheel from you (#AP4038939 {31001317}). I tried installing the new wheel and the center hole is slightly smaller than the spindle it slides onto. It won’t go on.

My old blower wheel has the number >PP-TS20< in one quadrant on the back and the number 4 in the quadrant to the right. Your replacement part has the exact same number >PP-TS20< in one quadrant but the number 3 in the quadrant to the right.

Could this difference affect the size of the center hole?

Any suggestions as to how to get your new wheel onto my center spindle?

Thanks,

Mike

Mike,

This part number is correct. This is the OEM part and should fit properly. It could be slightly tight to put it on.

Hi Gene,

Tried again today to attach new blower wheel. Still too tight. I tried gently using a rubber mallet to no avail. The plastic center started to chip away-the center hole is too small. I measured my motor shaft diameter to the flat side of shaft. It is 7/16". The diagram says it should be 3/8" which is what the new blower wheel opening is. I tried to google my model number (LNC7761A71) but it did not come up. The closest number was LNC7760A71 or LNC7764A71.

My serial number is 10415075QZ if this helps.

Any further help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Mike,

In your first thread http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/dryer-repair/372936-mike.html#post613960 posted on 12/05/11 you stated that the model number of your dryer is LNC7764A71. The part number for the blower wheel given to you is for this model number. The model number LNC7761A71 does not come up anywhere. Is it American model?

Gene.

Hello Mike,

I read the posts, watched the video an purchassed the same part. It didn’t fit. I hammered it on and broke it. Now I have two broken impellars. That is the technical term for the PP-TS20 WHEEL. The date of the old part is 11/31/2007. You would think that Maytag would know better than to treat their customers this way.

I’m in the same boat as you. I see this was from May of this year. What did you do to resolve the issue??

Did anyone ever get resolution to this problem? I’m in the same boat - trying to replace the blower wheel for my Maytag Proforma model #PYE2000AYW. Both ******************************** and AppliancePartsPros say it is part # 31001317 with a 3/8" motor shaft diameter. There is no way my motor shaft is that small - clearly does not fit. Any advice here?

I was in the exact same situation: Removed blower wheel, checked with Sears and different websites to make absolutely sure I was ordering the correct part. Based on my model #, the wheel I needed was part # 31001317. Ordered the part, tried to install and center hole of wheel was too small to fit on the shaft.

I went back to the internet, convinced I must’ve missed something (which is when I found this forum and this thread). Every website I checked gave me the same part # I’d already tried. Numerous phone calls and questions resulted in the same answer: This is the correct part ma’am, you’ve got to be doing something wrong, you probably entered the wrong model #, and even, “You should leave this to a professional.”

Finally, in a locally owned parts shop 45 min away, I got an answer.

There is a SERIES NUMBER listed somewhere near the model number on your dryer. The blower wheel recommended to me was for a series 11. My dryer is a series 10. (The tag on my dryer does not say “series” – just to the right of the model # it reads “Rev 10”)

This is for a Maytag Proforma residential clothes dryer.

Model # PYE2000AYW Rev 11 = Blower wheel # 31001317
Model # PYE2000AYW Rev 10 = Blower wheel # 31001043

Once I installed the CORRECT part, the machine runs beautifully.

Hope this helps someone and keeps them from the frustration I endured.

interesting thread, I too was having the same problem

Thank you so much for your reply. My local parts stores did not know to ask about rev 10 vs rev 11. They do have both parts but weren’t sure which one to order. This thread helped out.

Thanks for the tip on looking for the Rev# (or Series#). After seeing I have PYE2000AYW Rev. 10 I feel confident in ordering the 31001043 Blower Wheel
