bearing for Duet

My duet front load washer chewed up the front outer drum. I replaced it and found that there must be a bearing out in the outer rear drum. Can the bearing be replaced or do I have to buy a complete outer drum? I have not taken it out yet to see how bad it looks. I did not see a bearing on the parts list but noted that it is included in the outer rear drum.

I have the same problem with the rear tub bearing. Were you able to purchase just the bearing?

The bearing is attached to the rear outer drum part #AP3773841
I would also suggest getting some clamps #AP3919286. Always a good idea to have a few of these just in case when separating the outer tubs.

I have seperated the outer tub and removed both bearings in the rear tub but I cannot read the part #'s on the bearing. Can anyone tell me just the bearing part numbers so that I can try to locate them.

You can’t get just the bearings, it’s the complete assembly.

First, I believe the duet has a 10 year warranty on the outer tub that contains the bearings. If your washer is under 10 years contact whirlpool and ask them to send you the rear outer tub.

If it is more than 10 years old, I would take the bearings to a repair shop that could measure and match for you. I use a farm equipment dealer/repair that also does mower repair. These are just sealed bearings and are nothing special. As long as all of the measurements match, the new parts will fit. My guess is $8-$15 each depending on the markup at your shop.

My problem turned out to be the bracket that holds the shaft to the basket. It is part of the basket assembly.

If Whirlpool customer service tells you that the warranty is void because you took the machine apart, ask for a manager and explain that the part is under warranty and they will send you the part. I would avoid the hassle of getting a service person to come out and just get the part from Whirlpool and install myself.

Good Luck!

I called Whrilpool and the outer tub is not covered but the stainless tub is for 10 yrs. They were not very willing to help me out with my problem. I asked if they have had problems with the rear bearing going bad and they said no they haven’t. I did however locate some new bearings. I going to try and finish up today.

The outer tub is an assembly. It is covered for 10 years. See attached link.

It is up to you to contact Whirlpool. Or just replace the bearings. Good luck and have fun!

Can the rear bearing be pulled without removing the tub from the washer?
Does anyone have a part number for the bearing itself? (I know it’s not a separate part from the rear tub from Whirlpool)

Thanks for the help!

Did you ever install replacement bearings in the outer tub? If so, where did you locate the seal?

just curious if anyone found a source for Duet Sport rear bearings? I need to replace mine and would rather not have to buy the entire half a tub for $200. I read that you could probably bring the old bearing to a appliance parts store and they can match it up, has anyone had any success with that?

According to a search I did on google, the bearings for the Duet Model GHW9400 are made by NTN and are: rear - 6206LLBC3/5K & front -
6307LLBC3/L627. I have not been able to find a part number for the seal.

I don’t know if the Duet Sport you mention would use the same bearing kit.

There is a fellow named Jeff Hartman who is advertising that he supplies a bearing kit (bearings plus seal) for Duet FL washers. see “duetbearing.com”,WHIRLPOOL DUET BEARING AND SEAL KIT[. I have not been able to find any user feedback on his kits for the Duet or equivalent Elite washers. Maybe he can point you to some.

Did you have any luck finding the seal kit? I haven’t taken my Duet HT apart yet but mine is just starting to have problems. Pretty sure the basket is still in good shape and that the bearings are just starting to wear out. I read in several places that the bearing are molded into the rear tub. Have you already completed this repair and how hard was it? I am not worried about taking the unit apart, just about how difficult it will be to switch out the bearings in the outer tub.

It turned out my bearing and seal were fine, but the spider was totally destroyed. All 3 arms corroded thru and broken off at the hub. The Duet bearing and seal kit advertised does not have a removal tool available like the Neptune and costs about $80. A new rear outer tub costs about $200. Jeff Hartman would not confirm that his seal was the same as the original seal. It may be as good or better, but I could not get any further info. Anyhow, I did not need it and was not looking forward to replacing the bearings without the right tools. If you learn more, please let me know for future anticipated problems.

Did you ever complete your replacement of the bearing/seal?

The Whirlpool Duet Sport bearings and 8540091 Seal are at Duet Bearing.

The replacement 8540091 seal works on the following Duet Sport models:

CHW9900VQ0
MWFW8300SW01
MWFW8300SW02
WFW8200TW00
WFW8200TW01
WFW8300SW02
WFW8300SW03
WFW8300SW04

The good news is that the support bracket is called out separate on the Duet Sport exploded views! This means that the support bracket can be replaced without replacing the stainless steel tub as in the other Duet/Elite front load washers where the SS tub/bracket support are one expensive part.

In most cases you don’t have to replace the support bracket but it is good to know in case it does get damaged when the bearings fail.

In addition, the 8400 and 8500 Duet Sport models use the larger 8540347 Seal which will be available in December, 2011 at the same Duet bearing and seal site mentioned above.

I hope this helps…
