Washer was working fine when it suddenly started making a loud grinding sort of noise, and the tub was not moving. I checked the motor coupler and it is fine. I pulled the transmission and motor and noticed that the brake cam was broken, so I assumed that the brake was sticking and creating the noise, and holding the tub. I replaced the cam and the clutch but the noise was still there and the tub will still not move. I pulled the motor and trans again and discovered that if I run the motor out of the machine, the noise is still there although much less quieter. Also, I can grasp the shaft and stop it from turning. Am I correct in assuming that the gear box is shot and the noise was being amplified by the cabinet of the machine?
I would check the drive block to see if it’s stripped out.
Just looked at it some more and while out of the machine it runs in the agitate cycle fine with no noise. It only doesn’t work in the spin mode.
Do you mean the plastic and rubber assembly between the motor and the gear box? It is fine.
