As Easy as a Fan Replacement?

Greetings all,

I have a Sub Zero 642 side-by-side, circa 2000. I noticed recently that a portion of the interior wall between compartments was uncomfortably warm to the touch. Investigation revealed that the condenser fan wasn’t running. What’s interesting is that when the compressor is running, if I give the fan blade a spin, the fan will run. I’ve been running the unit with the panel off and the works exposed. Sometimes the fan comes on with the compressor and sometimes it doesn’t. If I give it a spin, it runs. When the fan runs, the interior wall of the compartment is no longer warm.

It seems obvious to me that it’s time for a new fan. While I consider myself “handy”, I also know that I’m no expert on appliance repair, so I thought I’d better consult with wiser minds before making any assumptions. Could there be anything else going on besides a bad fan?

That is actually a pretty common failure and will likely only require replacing that condenser fan motor. That fan is available below!
