We have had this Amana for many years and it has provided very good service. It is located in our attached garage. A couple of weeks ago I noticed some temperature variation in the freezer compartment.
I had a repair service come by to look at it. He said the compressor was wearing out and drawing too much current. He quoted me $650.00 for the repair. He also said that the older unit, like ours, were better built than the new units. He also stated that the bulk of his work is repair of fridges 16 months to 2 years old.
My questions are is the $650.00 quote realistic for a compressor replacement (we are in Denver)? Is he correct in has assessment of the quality of the newer appliances? $650.00 is better than $1200.00 for a new fridge but I don’t want to have more problems in a year or two.
Thank you,
Wayne
