Amana Icemaker

The ice machine in my refrigirator started making hollow ice. It has now stopped making ice altogether. I removed the water fill tube elbow and found it iced up to the point no water would flow. I thawed it out and reintalled, the icemaker runs yet no water flows. I have water to the water valve located in the lower rear.

I want to make sure I do not spend money on the wrong part. I am trying to troubleshoot the problem, is it the water valve or the icemaker itself. How does one go about testing the 2 parts?

Remove the wires from the water valve. Connect the voltmeter test probes to these wires. Force the ice maker into the harvest and watch the voltage.

If there is 120 VAC, replace the water valve.

If the voltage reading is incorrect, replace the ice maker.

Ok, I haven’t had a chance to pull the fridge back out but I left the icemaker in the run position and tonight it made a few cubes. Four to be exact, and I see the fingers have ice froze on them. Does this imply the icemaker is bad, or the water valve? Or should I still test the water valve for voltage?

Thanks!

Even there is still a small chance for the ice maker to be bad, I would replace the water valve first.

Doe the water valve have a screen or anything like that that may be “clogged”?

It might be, but it’s not worth to clean it.

ok I will start with the water valve, thank you very much!

You are welcome. Keep us posted.
