Amana Freezer not cooling, compressor seems to run?

My Amana ARSE66ZBS SxS fridge is not frosting the evaporator at all. The compressor ohms out fine and zero grounding issues. The compressor hums, but more quietly than normal. I removed the relay and it definitely rattles bad, but why would the compressor still lightly hum if the relay is the culprit? The compressor does not get the discharge lines cold, nor the return lines hot, but it is definitely running, albeit not at full capacity. Could it not be getting a full start?

Thank You in advance.

That would be my conclusion. Perhaps one of the windings is not getting power so it cannot start.

Could be hum is just electrical hum fro the winding as it does not sound like the compressor is actually vibrating.

Ok, just ordered relay and capacitor. Will let you know the results.

Installed the new relay and capacitor today. Compressor fired right up and sounds like normal, but after a few hours, I still have no signs of cooling. I guess I’m probably dealing with a low charge now?

Remove the cover in the freezer so you can see the evaporator coils. If there is frost in just one area (usually where the freon enters thye coils) you rae probably low on freon.

If there is no frost then you are either out of freon or the compressor has a mechanical problem.

In any case it will be an expensive repair with no gurantee of success.
If low or out, they have to find the leak and fix it before refilling.
If a bad compressor, it has to be replaced.

Often it makes more sense to put the dollars towards a new unit.
Be sure to get a written quyote with a couple different scenarios.

I had it off when running and there was no sign of any frost at all. We’re looking into a new fridge. Any brand or model recommendations for either SxS or french door units?

Sorry I do not make recommendations because if i do it would probably go belly up a week after warranty is up.
I am not the luckiest guy in the world.

I do not like GE because of all the problems they have had with control boards, just take a look at the number of them in this forum.

I also do not like Samsung. They often use 2 evaporators and replacing a defrost heater requires replacing the evaporator which is in my opinion just crazy.

LG does not have a good reputation when it comes to service.

You also have to watch Sears/Kenmore. They just put their badge on other manufacturers products. The first 3 digits of the model number tells you who made it.

Try to get one that meets you needs, units with a lot of bells & whistles will have more problems in the future.

I am not sure is this site will let me add a link to the following site so change the hxxp to http to get to it.

Thank you for all the help!

You are welcome.

I just wish it had turned out better.
