Brand: Amana
Model Number: ARB8057CW
Main Symptom: Barely cooling
What happens & when:
This Amana ARB8057CW freezer won’t cool below about 10F. Fridge is staying at set temperature below 40F. I’ve replaced the defrost timer and thermostat, cleaned the coils, checked the seals and fans and even checked that the freezer light goes out when I close it.
A logging thermometer sees the defrost heater go on briefly every cycle. If the door is left open or I put something warm in the freezer it takes days to get back to temperature, cooling less than 1 degree per hour.
Ice doesn’t build up on the coils, but it does grow at the joint where the thin cooling tube joins the thicker one (where there’s black tape and sealant) and I need to defrost that by hand.
The compressor runs 100% of the time when the timer isn’t in the defrost cycle.
Am I missing something or is this a failing compressor or leaked refrigerant?
The fridge is 20+ years old and will be hard to replace to fit in the space made for it when the kitchen was remodeled and I’d love to repair it, but not sure if it’s worth it.
Any advice?
