A Poor Disabled Guy

My Refrigerator/Freezers, freezer evaporator coils freeze solid with ice. I turned the timer dial until the compressor shut off but I don’t think it went into defrost because the compressor came back on in about a minute. What should I try next?

Here are your parts.

Set the thermostat to the coldest seatting.
Now try forcing a defrost, go slow.
I cannot find any tech info on this unit so do not know if the thermostat shuts off the compressor and the evaporator fan.
You may just have been a little too quick turning on the defrost the first time.
Defrost should take 20 to 30 minutes.

I’m not sure what you mean by “forcing a defrost” The knob I turned, with a small screwdriver, was on a small white box mounted on the left inside of the compressor compartment in the back of the frig. It only moves one click at a time and that’s what I turned until the compressor shut down. I don’t know if I gave you enough information the first time. Someone told me to do that and it should shut off until it defrosts and turn back on in 20 to 30 min, like you said. But the compressor came back on in about a minute. that’s why I’m not sure if the the timer or thermostat or “defrost coil” (where ever that is) is bad. I just don’t have the money to buy another frig so I’m trying to fix it myself. Thanks Keith

OK sounds like you did force a defrost cycle correctly but the unit would not go into a defrost cycle.

I would replace the timer.
