1) Ice Door Loose & 2) Sticky Dispenser Switch

I have two issues with my 8-year-old Maytag side-by-side freezer’s “fountain” assembly:

  1. The ice door (Item #7 on the exploded view) has come loose and it’s not clear to me if it can be re-installed or if it must be replaced.

  2. The rubber-covered switch that activates the ice/water dispenser (Item #17 on the exploded view) sticks “ON” (leading to both a mess and a lot of yelling by whoever’s using it!).

I’d like to get information on how to disassemble these parts properly (i.e. without damaging anything else!) to determine what mich be able to be fixed or what must be replaced. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Remove the dispenser cover by gently prying going round and round a little at a time to prevent from breaking it. When it’s off the screws will be exposed to access the other components.

Thanks for your help.

I assume the dispenser cover you’re referring to is the cover that mounts to the front of the freezer door (Item 1 on the diagram)? Are both the ice door assembly and the switch bolted to the rear of this cover?

Nothing is bolted to the cover but everything is behind it.
