My refrigerator was moved from my old house to my new one on it's back. I was told that if I waited a couple of days before turning it on, there wouldn't be any problems. I waited nearly a week, turned it on and it seemed fine. A day later, it started making a very loud "pinging" sound near the back. I'm assuming it's the compressor. I'm just looking for a little advice on what else it might be. If I move it or shut it off for a couple of days, it seems fine for a little while. I shimmed up the front because I thought it might not be level in my garage and that helped for about a day and a half.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Cannot find any info using the given model number, please check it.

Pull the unit away from the wall and remove the compressor area cove if it has one and take a look.

May be something as simple as a wire being hit by the condenser/compressor fan. Or perhaps the fan has moved a little and is hitting the case/frame.

It may even be the evaporator fan in the freezer compartment.

The model # is GLHS268zdb2. Also, I found that the noise is coming from the coolant pump. I found that if i move it around, i can hear it "rattle" around. It feels like something inside of it is moving around "clanging" against the wall of the pump housing. The fan is clear of everythign, and the mounts on the pump look o.k. It sounds like it's hollow, but something is clearly "moving" in there. Anymore thoughts???

Unfortunately it sounds like the compressor is on it's last legs.

Could last for quite a while like this but also could go belly up tomorrow.

I would use it as a beer fridge but would not keep frozen food or perishables in it. It will probably fail when you are away for a while and could cost you hundreds of dollars in spoiled food.

That's a bummer, the fridge is barely 5 years old....must have been the move?

I adjusted the rubber shock absorbers on the bottom of the pump and the fridge is running flawless now. Glad I didn't have to replace the pump or fridge. FYI for anyone having a similar problem, in my case, it appears that just adjusting the feet on the bottom of the pump fixed my issue, it was apparently slightly out of balance or something. Definitley worth looking at if you are experiencing somethign similar

Thanks for getting back to us. Now when others search for a similar problem they will see what actually worked instead of just suggestions about what could be the cause.

I will have to add this to my responses to people with a banging compressor.
It was probably loose right from day one.
I have never seen this but if it saves one banging fridge out of a hundred it is worth while checking.

Thanks again.
