My gas dryer has started to have problems - when it runs it seems noisier then usual, but more often then not it is really noisy when I hit the start button but the drum isn't turning - after about 5 seconds of this it shuts off and then won't run at all until it has sat for a while (I'm guessing some sort of overload switch is triggered?). I took it all apart and cleaned all of the lint out of everything and inspected the drum rollers (they seemed fine), idler pulley (it seemed fine but I wasn't sure how exactly to inspect it), and belt (again, seemed fine). The noise is coming from the area of the motor and blower wheel and sounds like the motor is binding or otherwise not turning. Again, sometimes it will work but typically it is doing this noisy shut-off deal. Is this a motor problem? Please advise what else I can check or how I can narrow down the problem.

One more detail I just recalled - there has also been a burning rubber or plastic odor while it's been having this problem.

Thanks in advance.

It turned out to be the motor that was bad - I replaced it and it's working like a champ now.
