When I check for replacement handles for this microwave, it does not show any numbers for handles. It only shows parts for replacing the entire door. Do I have to replace the whole door? How do I remove the door/hinges? The handle is secured from screws on the inside of the door. The inside door has star shaped screws, not phillips.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Bill,

The handle is only available together with the door. GE does this to some of their microwave models for whatever reason.

To replace the door, you'll need to unplug and remove the entire microwave, set it on a flat surface, discharge the capacitor, and remove the case. Not a simple job. What makes it worse is the door assembly sells for around $161. From what I can tell, this microwave is probably about 8-10 years old, if not more. Might want to consider replacing the micro altogether. As an option, you can try contacting your local microwave repair shops - they always have old micrwave parts laying around and you might find a similar door you can use a handle from.

Hope this helps.
