The rubber seal is mildewed and I cannot not get it off. I have purchased a replacement but am a bit reluctant to do the work myself when I saw how difficult it is to get the present one off. I am somewhat handy around the house. Shoudl I tackle it myself? I would also like to know how to prevent this problem in the future. Thanks

Instead of replacing the door seal I would recommend to use Affresh - high efficiency cleaner, designed by Whirlpool specially for front load washers.
