Fred,

Yes, I'm saying about the evaporator coil cover inside the freezer. This cover and the cover on the back of the refrigerator which covers the compressor compartment must be in place in order to provide proper heat exchange. Put them back in place and check the temperature after at least 24 hours.

Hi Gene,
I put the covers back on, and power it back on and check after a day. Still, warm. Is it possible that even its closed system that it can lose freon in storage? What is the next possible problem?

Fred

Hi Fred,

Most likely the problem is a restriction in the sealed system. The job should be done by a qualified tech.

Hi Gene,

How could be a restriction possible in the sealed system? Maybe a kink in the line? during transport? How about the brain?

Hi Fred,

A restriction could be caused by the compressor oil stuck in the capillary tube. It is one of most common problems for GE refrigerators, especially if it was not used for a while. If the compressor and both fans are running but the evaporator coil not covered in light snow completely, it is pretty good sign of restriction (more likely) or leak on Freon (less likely). Such problem has nothing to do with the control board.

Fred, every time when you post your question, I need the complete description on what is going on at this time. I can not see the refrigerator and my advise is based on whatever you post.

Hi Fred,

I wish I can help you fix your refrigerator, but unfortunately I do not have a shop and Riverside County is too far away. I also do not know anybody who works there.

I'd recommend to call a local qualified tech. Pricewise it could be: restriction - something between $200 to $300, leak on Freon - something between $250 to $350 (sometime it takes very long time to pinpoint the leak before fixing) and, if the compressor itself is bad then it could be about $700.
