I have a Whirlpool LER7646EZ0 dryer that I can't seem to get the metal venting material attached to the dryer because the lip isn't wide enough to attach it with a screw-tightening clamp or a squeeze clamp. I noticed there is a plastic collar inside the cover on the vent and wondered if that is supposed to be used to put the vent on. If so, does the flared side go close to the dryer or to the wall?

Gene, thanks for the installation manual for my dryer, but I still haven't found an answer to how to get the vent to stay on my dryer with clamps. At this time, I've just got the dryer pushed up against the metal venting material. Also, someone told me they use the plastic collar to help hold the venting material, but I know you are not supposed to use plastic. What is the plastic collar there for?
