HI Gene,

I read your write up on the freezer being cold but not the frig.

I have the same issues. I have icing on the coils, in the freezer.

I took apart the panels, and located the "defrost timer" , but I don't understand how to turn the switch on it to check if it is good or not. I don't see a switch that I can turn with a flat blade screwdriver. Please help.

The part # is Part Number: AP3109394
Made by WHIRLPOOL

I am stuck at this step.....
Here is your info where I am lost....

"""). Using the break down diagrams, locate the defrost timer.

4). Using a flat screwdriver, slowly turn the shaft in the middle of the defrost timer clock wise until it clicks to switch from the cooling cycle to the defrost cycle.

5). Wait about 10 to 15 minutes, open the freezer door and see if you can hear a sizzling noise. If you can, then the problem is the defrost timer which has to be replaced.

If there is no such noise, go to the next step…"""""

You missed one thing in that article: "...The classic defrost system (we are not talking now about refrigerators operated by electronic devices)..."

The defrost timer in your refrigerator is actually an electronic device, not a regular electromechanical timer.

You have to perform the troubleshooting as described in the Tech sheet for your refrigerator.

Post the results.

Gene.

Thanks Gene,

I think I found the issue with my Frig,

Inside the freezer above the coils, there is a fan, with wiring leading to a harness. 2 wires that should be inside this harness have come loose.

They are brown and orange and I don't know which holes within the harness plug they go into. I tried unplugging the harness but I don't know how to remove it. I can solder it back into place on the 6 wire block plug, but I need a breakdown diagram to follow. I can take a photo of the wiring and post it if that helps?? Thanks again!

I think I figure it out, went to radio shack and purchased molex type crimps, removed the old ones out and soldered in new ones, I am putting the frig back together and I will test to see if everything works. Thank you again for a wonderful site.

Before you do anything I would recommend to carefully check the wiring and schematic diagrams on the second page of the Tech sheet. I'm afraid these two wires can be left unused for a test purposes.
