hello.

I have a Thermador 4-burner gas cooktop, SGSX304ZW. 2 of the 4 burners have the XLO.

one of the standard (non-XLO) burner stopped igniting. The gas comes out so I can light it with a match, but no other sound than the gas. No other sparks are seen on other burners (but it seems like this is normal for this model? when I ignite one of the working ones, no others strike either). Other 3 burners ignite ok.. However, on a side note, one of the XLO units used to have continual striking problem after ignition that disappeared on its own (it is the unit right next to the problematic burner, just in case this is remotely related).

I thought I just need to replace the igniter, but doing some reading on this forum makes me think it may not be that straight forward. Igniters are clean, and no significant buildup can be seen on the exterior. I have not yet opened up the unit for this problem. (Unit was opened up once by a professional to replace the broken indicator lamp... however the ignition problem didn't start until few weeks after, so I don't think that is the culprit, but thought I'd mention it anyway)

I would be most appreciative if someone can give me pointers on what other components could go bad that would cause this phenomenon.

Most likely the problem is a bad ignition switch (#6 on the diagram) for this burner.

I have the same problem as lindam02. I have removed the venturi from the offending burner, and from the neighboring burner. When I plug the wire from the non-working burner into the ignitor of the working burner, it doesn't work. When I plug the non-working burner ignitor into the wire of the working burner, it works. So, I think I have a wiring problem, or I need to replace the switch, as Gene suggests above.

My problem is that I can't figure out how to open-up the cooktop. I have a model SGSX365CS. I've seen some of the exploded parts views for other models, but it still isn't apparent how to actually open the thing up!

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You can remove the top panel only after you'll remove all venturis and top burners.

The model number you posted does not come up. The closest model number I found is SGSX365ZS. Review the diagrams and compare to your stove to see if these models are similar.

Here are the breakdown diagrams and Replacement parts for THERMADOR SGSX365ZS | AppliancePartsPros.com

Similar problem with my Thermador SGSX365RB, a 36-inch, five-burner cooktop purchased in 2000 that doesn't show up on Thermador website: right rear burner has worked intermittently for some time. Able to ignite with manual flame so problem apparently in the igniter. After finally figuring out that the hex top on the venturi means "unscrew here", I got the lid up. Disconnected the ignition wire from the offending igniter and polished the igniter male end with steel wool to minimize possible corrosion then carefully cleaned the igniter top with steel wool and dental floss. Before reassembling, took the opportunity to rotate all five igniters 90 degrees CCW to bring new bring new material to the front. Reassembled and works. If it fails again will replace igniter.
