Hi- fridge may be either 4-8 years old, i forget. anyway, cannot match model number, have tried before. it is a small, commonly called apartment or contractor special. not the dorm size, though. has a freezer up top and fridge on bottom. no bells and whistles, plastic racks in fridge, came with no dairy drawer or racks in freezer. selected because have very old home and spot for fridge is built in. Family hates it, too small, but if i can repair rather than buy new I would like to.
I have taken it apart once. the coils in the back of the fridge are not convered with ice, so I believe defroseter is working. per manual set to 12 or 24 hours so cannot be sure.
When i take the back section of freezer off the passage way between the fridge and freezer is encased in styrofoam which has had a meltdown(brown). so need to replace that. also the passage fills with ice and blocks the flow of cold air to fridge. can get fridge to work by disassembling, removing ice, and reassembling. but would rather repair.
serial number says rf141829.
so do i need a new fan for the fridge? anything else? do you have?

The ice you are finding is the defrost water. The drain is most likely clogged. Right in the middle under the evaperator is the drain hole, you need some hot water and a turkey baster to clean that hole out. Keep flushing water down it till you hear the water go all the way down.
