Our GE washer was working fine with no apparent problems. Went to wash a load of clothes and it will not operate. It is like it has no power, but the outlet is hot. The washer is located in a Vacation Rental on an Island in the Caribbean, so there is no repair type person available. What do you think could be the problem. Lid switch? I am going to the Island in a week and could take parts with if I knew what to take.

Thanks,
Bob

I would start at the timer. If you're getting power from the timer, the next check would be the water valve.

Do I use a standard meter to check if I have power at the timer? Is this the best place to start looking?

Thanks
Bob

Any good meter will work, as long as you can use it to do a few voltage checks. Was the machine imported to the island from the US? Make sure the current frequency agrees with the manufactured electrical components. A lot of electronic and motorized components will fail early with a lower voltage.

I am on the island and am pretty sure that the problem is with the control panel. I have power thru the cord to inside of waher brain but then nothing. I now have a problem with the dishwasher, model PDW8280J03SS. the lower and upper arms do not appear to be moving whil in the standard wash mode. I have hotwater going into the base of the machine. Is there a valve filter screen I should be checking?
Thanks,
UtilaBob
