My garage door opener will not function, even when disconnected from the garage door. It is about 2 years old, three quarter horsepower model. It will start to respond for about 1 second, but then it stops and the lights flash. I tried increasing the up and down pressure, but it had no effect.

Check the garage door opener sensors that are on the end of the door near the floor.

Are they pointed towards each other?
Is there anything blocking them from one another?

Great tip - that has happened to several people that I know. Be sure to check that first!
