I have an Emerson MWG9111SL and I recently was heating something and all of a sudden mid-cycle it stopped heating and the turntable stopped. Everything else appears fine all the buttons work and you can set everything but when you turn it on the timer ticks down but there microwave does not heat and the turntable doesn't turn. What are the possible reasons/solutions? And what is my most cost effective way to fix the problem?

check primary to large transformer at bottom should be 120 during operation..
if this is ok only 3 parts left
1. large cap
2 . large diode
3. magnetron.
unless transformer itself is bad not likely

If the time counts down but the microwave does not heat and it is silent, the first thing I would do is check the door switches.

My microwave does the same thing - does a count-down, but no cooking, no turntable movement. However, light is on.
You recommended to the first person with this problem to check the door switches. How exactly is this done?

each door switch has only 2 or 3 terminals. use an ohm meter. check to make sure they are changing when you open and close the microwave door.. making sure you look carefully to see if the door itself is pushing the button i have fixed many units that are just a broken latch on the door not a switch failure itself. They are used as a double fail safe to make dang sure the door is closed when using microwave. may need to pull off wires from switches to isolate the other circuit if you suspect a bad one. compare them to each other if you get confused. no marking means normally open nc marking means normally closed.

Thank you for responding. So I have to remove the control panel (and door) to access the door switches? Do I HAVE to have an ohm reader? I'm new at this and have no tools like that. Any suggestions for a novice? Thanks, Karen

Gene. Gene - thanks for responding. Funny you should ask about model #. The M/W itself says Model #MW8115SS; however, the features, physical appearance and capabilities are those of Model #MW8117W. So I use MW8117W. Also, I got frustrated with the M/W the other night and started shaking the door and cabinet back and forth, up and down, all different ways, and got it to start working. Evidently one has to hold one's jaw just right and pray to get it to work. Seriously, if I push in on the upper left portion of the control panel and push up on the lower right portion of the door, it will work. So it seems it does have something to do with door switches.
