Rank: Member Groups: Registered Joined: 5/5/2010(UTC) Posts: 3		Is it possible to clean the lint filter without special tools, breaking seals, etc.? I have removed the agitator and can see the filter through the tiny holes. The machine is about 20 years old and has never had any problems, still works great. Is there any "drano" for cleaning this that will not harm the machine?

In their troubleshooting guide, they simply do not address lint. Amana calls it a "self-cleaning" filter, which of course is ridiculous. This is just another example of the sad state of industrial design - a filter that one cannot clean without taking apart the entire machine. I have to assume that the intent is that the machine will be replaced long before the lint filter clogs. My apology for venting my frustration!

Fact is 20 years without a problem is very good. I can almost guarantee you will not get this with a modern unit. I think the procedure to pull the lint filter is on Page 25.
