The Motor coupling on our Whirlpool 5100 series disintegrated so I purchased a replacement from Star East International at Padstow in Sydney. I took the original part with me to make sure that they supplied the correct one but the assistant wasn't interested in seeing it or checking any part numbers/model numbers etc. She claimed that the new universal coupling with the metal insert was the only replacement available so I bought her BS and left. When I fitted the part I noticed that the coupling wouldn't slide all the way down the shaft because of a tiny lip on the coupling. It's still possible to reassemble the bits but there's a greater amount of pressure pushing down on the motor because of the coupling not fitting properly. Can anyone advise. Should I hunt around for the correct part or maybe just file down the lip so that the thing fits properly By the way I've been back to these people and they insist that it's the correct part even after a full description with all part numbers etc etc I won't be shopping there ever again, they've taken the attitude that because I haven't paid some tech $70 an hour to do a simple job I must be incompetent. "The part doesn't fit" no matter who is doing the job.

Ok, even though my name is Sidney I am not familiar with Australian parts and models. However, your machine does look like the basic Whirlpool direct drive machine and yes, the motor coupling is universal and standard so the one you purchased should work.

However, there should not be a lip on the coupling so either get them to replace it or file it down. The new coupling pieces are hard to get on, what we do is put a little lubricant on the shaft and then use a socket big enough so the shaft goes into it. We put the socket on the piece and tap gently until the end of the shaft is even with the coupling piece.

Sounds like you are doing all the right things, and the problem is with your parts supplier. I would definitely register a complaint with their management.

Good luck.
