Hello all
Where do I look first
This pre 1984 Whirlpool washer starts spinning as soon as the agitator starts
It doesn't matter if the lid is open or closed

I watched the wigwag, and it seems to be sliding past the push point on the spin bar

My best guess is that the plunger isn't falling into place or the spin bar contact point is worn

Am I even close?????

Thanks in advance for your help

I'm afraid the problem is a bad gear case which is no longer available.

Here are the break down diagrams for the Whirlpool washer Model LA7800XPW0

Hi Gene
Thanks for the quick reply.
I took apart the wigwag and found the plunger bent on the spin cam bar side.
I was able to slide the spin cam bar back and forth
Is it possible that the plunger got damaged from 25 or more years of laundry and that's all that's wrong.
It's a cheap part to replace, is it worth the try???
Thanks again.

Yes it certainly is worth it, this is a fine old washer that is more rugged than the new ones.
