Hello:
We had a ge certified tech come to check our frig (model #PDS22SISBRSS), as the freezer was not keeping cool (running anywhere from -3 degrees to 13 degrees. He said that the condenser fan motor (part #WR84X10055) was not working and that we would need to replace the fan motor and the control board (part #WR55X10942-ge). My husband removed the fan (which had 4 wires, red, blue, yellow and white-inserted into a white plastic clip) which was attached to another white clip on the frig end that had a red , red, and white wire. When he unclipped the fan clip from the frig clip, the wires from the frig end (red, red, white just fell out of the white clip. It wasn't secured in as you would expect a wire to be snapped in. When he tried to put the bare ends of the red, red, and white wires back into the plastic clip they are not secure and don't snap in at all. WE are wondering if this refridgerator was even built properly. The repairman will not even try and put it back together for us, as he does not know what orientation the wires should be, and does not want any liability. The frig is was purchased in 2007 and still has a warranty on the sealed components from ge. WE just do not know where to go from here.. If you can guide us in whom to contact, or any info on the wire orientation. Shouldn't the wires have been secured better in this plastic clip? If this is how they are supposed to just haphazardly "sit" in this clip- no wonder the fan doesn't work! well any info would be great. Should I contact GE?
Thank you so much Dina

I am sorry but I cannot be very helpful here. GE likes to keep tech data a secret and you need a wiring diagram to figure out which wire goes where. Strange that your certified GE tech does not have this. Hopefully someone else with this info will jump in.
Check in the compressor area to see if you can find the wiring diagram. My husband removed the fan (which had 4 wires, red, blue, yellow and white-inserted into a white plastic clip) which was attached to another white clip on the frig end that had a red , red, and white wire. Strange that the color code does not match up
WE are wondering if this refridgerator was even built properly. Yes it does sound like the harness was never put together properly. It is strange that the pins did not back out when they plugged the fan motot in at the factory. Who knows this may be your only problem re: a bad fan connection at this plug.
I am assuming that you now have 3 wires with the little pins or receptacles attached. If you look closely at them you will see one or two little tabs that face back towards the wire. These have to be bent up. Then when you push the pin into the plastic plug they catch onto a lip in the plug and stop the pins from backing out. Hope I explained this OK.
The repairman will not even try and put it back together for us, as he does not know what orientation the wires should be, and does not want any liability. I cannot see why a so called certified tech cannot get the required info. but there may be a valid reason.
Shouldn't the wires have been secured better in this plastic clip? Yes If this is how they are supposed to just haphazardly "sit" in this clip- no wonder the fan doesn't work! No the pins should lock into the plug.
Should I contact GE? Unless you can find the wiring diagram or someone else is able to provide it, you may have no other choice. Who knows they may even repair it at no charge since it does sound like a manufacturing fault. That would be a long shot so if they do, it is your lucky day and I would also buy a lottery ticket. |
