I just noticed a green grease in the fabric softener cup....or more accurately, the part that the cup sits in on the center of the agitator. There was quite a bit, maybe a couple tablespoons or so, stuck to the inside of the plastic. My wife never uses fabric softener, and this substance is actual grease. It took solvent to clean it. Soap wouldn't cut it. Is this coming from the transmission? There doesn't seem to be any other issues, noises, etc. that I can determine.
Thanks!

I do not think it could be somehow connected to the transmission and this the only part in your washer which has oil inside.

Unscrew the agitator locking screw (#18 on the tub break down diagram, 1/4" size)for a few turns and pull the agitator up to remove it. Check the transmission shaft and clean the agitator.

Here are the break down diagrams for the Maytag washer Model LAT4914AAE

Thanks, Gene....I guess that's good news...but if not the transmission, then where? I'm stumped, but maybe I shouldn't sweat it.
Appreciate the reply...!
