We replaced the mother board in this refrigerator/freezer 2 years ago because it was making a continual whistling noise even though it was freezing/cooling OK. The new board corrected that problem. Now, 2 years later the freezer is icing up (on the middle of back wall) so the fan runs continually but freezer is not freezing and the refrigerator compartment is not cooling. Does the mother board control ALL systems on this refrigerator?

What you're describing are classic symptoms of a defrost problem. The most common cause is a burnt out defrost heater. You'll need to open the freezer and remove the back panel to expose the evaporator coil. Let it defrost (Do NOT scrape or poke at the ice to remove it). Usually, when the defrost heater is burnt out, it is obvious, but you can confirm by checking for continuity.

We ordered a new defrost part and it should be coming tomorrow. Are there instructions with the part that explains how to get the back panel off. You have stated that you get to it from inside the refrigerator not the back.

he said you get to the evaporator coil from inside the freezer, not the refrigerator. Also, dont be alarmed when you notice a difference between the part you ordered, and the original, which you will see has a single heating element, not two like on the new one.

The instructions that come with the heater only tell you how to connect it electrically, they do not give step by step how to perform your refrigerator repair.
