Hey all,
I have done some work on this washer but for some reason, I have hit a roadblock. I Have taken out the motor, the gearbox, clutch and agitator shaft to change the clutch. For some reason, I, for the life of me, can't get the gearbox to slide all the way back in. I have attached a photo of where I am stuck. If anyone has experienced a similar issue, please shed some light on how to correct this issue. Thank you all for your help, as it is much appreciated.

Nick

I sometimes have trouble also. You have to get the brake release cam (the white plastic thingy) positioned correctly. What I do is use one hand to turn the clutch and the other to push up gently on the transmission assembly until things go together.

Just keep at it and keep being patient, you will get it to go back.

Thank you so much. I did find the answer last night and Got it repaired. Also, I would like to tell you the #10 washer in the spring trick did work and extended the life of my clutch, for how much longer, i do not know. Thanks again.

Great, glad you got it fixed, and if you have to replace the clutch you now know what is involved.

Yeah. To be honest, I went to the parts store and said i need to replace the clutch and they said i would be better off buying a new washer.... This job was very simple (aside from the aformentioned issue). I am not mechanically inclined to say the least but I sure anyone would be able to do these repairs. Now I just need to figure out why my agitator is so weak. Seems like a never ending project, but in the end, its all worth it :-D

Well, your repair parts shop should know better. And if your agitator is weak try replacing the "dogs". The parts are only a few dolllers and it is a lot easier job then what you did.

I have the same problem and it turned out to be the agitiator dogs and I just bought some for under four bucks.

Was thanked: 2 time(s) in 2 post(s)
On older direct drive washers, sometimes you can't even get the tranny out. In that case, you will need to emery paper the spindle near the spin tube seal to get it out. Once out, clean the spindle shaft and lubricate it with non-detergent turbine oil befor putting it back.
