Hello,

I have a maytag neptune washing machine, model MAH4000AWW, that has behaved very oddly as of late. I was somehow spared the pain of the normal problems (mildew issues and wax motor, etc.) and have had good luck to this point. Let me break down the symptoms. I apologize in advance for the length, but this thing is very erratic.

1. About 2 weeks ago, returned from an errand to find front door open, water everywhere...assumed i didn't get it shut all the way or something caught in it. Worked fine for several days after this.
2. Noticed that hot water was operating during wash even on cold / cold setting, however rinse temperature is correct. This happened once or twice.
3. Hot water started running all the time during wash, never shutting off. Disassembled top and checked valve - the hot water valve is getting voltage (ie. removing the wires to the valve stops the water - it doesn't seem to be a valve failure) This was causing overflow / leakage around the door, so i just shut off the hot water and ran it cold.
4. 2 Loads later, the cold water joined the behavior of the hot water - running constantly through the wash cycle, causing overflow. On a whim to finish the load i stayed with the machine and turned the water off until the rinse cycle began. Here's the kicker - it ran the 3 rinses just fine - no problems with water shut off or overflow.
5. Now, the symptoms are all the same, except it shuts itself off between each rinse. Press 'on' and its good to go for one additional cycle.

I was originally thinking water level sensor, but it does shut the water off automatically at the rinse cycles. Could this be a control board issue? Any help appreciated. Thanks!

Mine just started similiar problem, except overfilling as well. I am getting ready to open and look at the control board for burnt traces or bad component. My wife is at me, I spent one week and over $100 changing the bearings....Will advise what I find, please do the same.

I had looked at the control board previously, finding no damage to the top, but i took the time to pull it and did find some substantially burnt traces. I also discovered a couple damaged wires in the control area, presumably from a period a few months back when this unit had a brief stint in storage. (appears to have been mice - yuck - on a side note, i've found that this is something best not relayed to the girlfriend, because now i have somewhere in the neighborhood of 842 traps in the utility room alone...)

I have a control board en route, and i'll let you know if that solves it.
