29" whirlpool electric dryer runs but no heat. Opened back panel and found that one of the three wires was burnt and broken loose at connection point (one on far right, probably with 240 vol as this one is thicker than other two wires). Red wire from harness to dryer is damaged but not broken. Need to know what else I need to check before replacing/fixing wire? What caused this wire to burn? I would appreciate quick help. Here your parts Replacement parts for WHIRLPOOL LER4634JQ1 | AppliancePartsPros.comHere is the wiring diagram http://www.servicematters.com/docs/wiring/Wiring%20Sheet%20-%208528187.pdfNeed to know what else I need to check before replacing/fixing wire? Did the dryer work properly re: different heat settings etc.? If you could not adjust the heat then you may have a grounded element. Remove both wires from the element and measure it, should be around 10 ohms. Then measure from each side to the case/frame, both should be infinite ohms (open). If not you have a grounded element and it needs replacing. What caused this wire to burn? Cannot say. It is possible that the connection was no good from day one. A slightly loose or corroded connection is a small resistance. As current flows through it, it heats up, this makes the connection worse which generates more heat and so on and so on till the connection fails. When repairing be sure to cut the wires back till you get to nice clean wire or it will just re-occur in the future. |
