Hello,

I have a whirlpool side-by-side with the ice bin in the door. I currently have no ice in the bin however there is ice sitting in the ice maker. here is how the problem began. I notice it was not making ice and the was little to no water in the maker. The filter was in the orange and i figured it was probably done for and put a new one in. Upon replacement I also removed the icemake to clear the half cubes out of the maker. I put it all back together and it made about 3 to 4 cycles worth of ice, that was it. Ocassionally a cube would be on the dispensor as well. As of now their is ice in the maker and it has been like that for about 24 hours or more.

Can someone please help me figure out what is wrong? Do i need a new icemaker or what?

Thanks in advance,

Troy

I just swapped the wires to the selenoids, pushed the water dispensor and water flowed into the ice maker. I would assume this means the problem is within the icemaker or the sensors, Is there any way to test them?

I have this same model. Our water dispenser still works, but our icemaker stopped working all together. I actually got on this site looking for help as well. Ours has no water or ice in the icemaker at all and was hoping to repair it rather than hire someone else if possible.

I have determined mine to be the pc board and ordered a new one. If you have no water I would check the black tube in the freezer to see if it is frozen, mine froze once and I used the wife's hairdryer to fix it. Next you could test the selenoid by taking the back panel off the unit and swapping the wires (plug) from the water dispensor. Then hit the water lever and if water shoots into the ice tray your selenoid is good. That should get you started.

Troy,

Thank you for sharing your diagnosis with us. You post was very illuminating and instructive.

In addition to your advice, if there is nothing wrong with the water inlet valve, the next step is to determine if there is a bad optic PC boards or a bad ice maker itself.

Make sure the ice maker "on-off" switch on the right side is in "on" position. Open the freezer door, press in the emitter flapper door (on the left side) to unblock the optics beam and view the diagnostics "status" LED on the right side.

If it flashes then the optic boards have to be replaced.

If it stays "on" then the ice maker is bad.
