My kenmore series 80 will not spin normally. The unit runs as normal until it gets to the spin cycle. It fills, agitates, and drains normally. When it switches to the spin cycle it sounds as if it is spinning but does not. If assisted with a manual turn of the drum this will engage it and it begins to spin but ultimatly it slows and most of the time stops. If it does continue to spin it is not fast enough to get any water out of the clothes and you can stop it with your hand. If I stay close to the unit during the spin cycle I can sometimes smell a hint of burning rubber or plastic. Any help with this problem would be great. Sorry for the long post but trying to give as much information as possible. My geuss is the motor coupler. Thanks in advance.

Probably dragging brake shoes plus a bad clutch. This will eventually burn out the motor.
You can go to my article page 5 General Talk section "replacing direct drive brake shoes".
