My Maytag MDG5500AWW gas dryer still does not produce any heat after replacing the two gas valve coils. Everything else in the dryer works fine. When I start the dryer, I hear two clicks or "clanks" coming from the gas valve assembly: one after starting the dryer, and another one about 4 seconds after that. Still nothing. No flame. No spark from the ignitor (which I think is a spark?).

Any ideas? I'd like to get my dryer fixed ASAP. Thanks!

Well if you put the coils in then, you know how to take the door off, and the front. So take them off, and then hold the door switch down, and turn the dryer to heat, and see if the glow coil comes on. if not it is either the coil or the flame sensor, which is mounted on the left side of the flame tube. I would unplug the dryer, and take the 2 wires off the flame sensor, and put the terminal ends together, and put some tape around it, so it does not hit metal, and then turn the dryer on, and see if it heats. If it does, do not run it like that it will not be safe. This is for testing only. If the ignitor doesn't come on, replace the ignitor. Tom ApplianceEducator.com

Have replaced the coils before and am ordering an new set at this time, just in case.
This time around I'm getting no heat at all.
I followed the steps above and when the ignitor did not glow I removed it and immediately found the problem. It has a visible crack in it, much like a blown fuse.

I remember the old Maytag commercials with the sleeping repairman. It had nothing to do with being reliable, just that they are easy to fix.
