We have a new (little over a year) GE Profile side by side fridge. A few months ago water would leak into the ice bin and freeze big chunks of ice in the bin. Water would also freeze around the "arm" that regulates the amount of ice to make. Now, the ice actually freezes in the tray and will not dump into the bin. You can hear the motor running, trying to dump it. The on/off lever willnot trun off the icemaker. What a mess! The GE people told me that this particular icemaker is not sold in it's entirity and that I need to purchase specific parts. Of course, they couldn't ell me what was wrong and directed me here. HELP!!!

sounds like the problem is not with your icemaker at all, and the problem is due to a faulty water valve solenoid. A solenoid opens and closes to allow water to the icemaker, or to the water dispenser, and sometimes these solenoids fail to close completely. the result is water constantly drips, sometimes it will fill the icemaker with so much water it overflows into the ice bucket, sometimes it will only fill up the fill tube, that which directs the water directly into the icemaker. when this fill tube freezes up with all that water, when the icemaker "calls" for water, the path is blocked with ice in the fill tube. frozen fill tubes are ALWAYS due to a bad solenoid

Thank you so much for the reply. It does all make sense. The one thing that I amnot clear on is whyis the ice "dumper" freezing up? The ice attempts to dump but the actual ice holder will only raise the ice out of the tray and then the ice sits there, half way dumped. It's all froze up. We can hear a grinding like the "wheel" is trying to dump the ice. Would all of this be related tot he selenoid?

Try to remember the ice forms you had. Ice block in fill tube = bad solenoid. ice block in one corner of ice bucket = bad valve OR icemaker. Icycles on ALL food below bucket and solid block of ice in bucket = bad valve or icemaker. Keep in mind, that a bad valve can sometimes cause an icemaker to go bad too, if water gets inside the head module. in which case both will have to be replaced anyway. It would take too much space for me to tell you everything I would check to see which is source of problem. But i can tell you that GE does in fact sell entire icemaker replacements. im pretty sure yours is Part number: wr30X10093
