I have a GE JT915 Single Convection oven. When setting the temperature to any setting (say 400 degrees); and then press start, the temperature indicator already indicates that the oven is over 100 degrees, even though its at room temperature. Then the oven temperature indicator climbs up to the set temperature; 400 in this case, and the oven beeps that it has reached temperature. However, using a separate oven thermometer, the oven will NEVER go over 260 degrees. It fails this way when using BAKE or CONVECTION. No matter what temperature I set it to even 450 or 500 degrees, the temperature indicator will climb to that temperature, but inside the oven, its only around 260 degrees.

I have the same model, and am having the identical problem.

To troubleshoot, I removed the thermal sensor, and it reads 1100 ohms at 75 degs ambient, so that is OK at ambient, although untested over temperature. The sensor may be non-linear as temperature rises. I may put it in the oven and use the convection setting and keep an oh meter connected and record the readings versus temperature. I am not sure what the resistance versus temperature readings should be.

I removed the bake element and it reads about 20 ohms, so no problem there.

I cleaned and reseated all connectors on the controller board and verified continuity there, so the wiring is not a problem.

I have tried resetting the oven controller by removing power.

Nothing fixed the BAKE problem.

By the way, the CONVECTION BAKE and BROIL both work, which makes me think it is not the sensor!!

Could it be the controller?

It sounds like this could be a common problem with this GE Pofile oven. Has anyone seen this and repaired it or have any suggestions?
