The most common cause of a GE defrost failure is the defrost heater. However, you need to see if it's the heater, the defrost thermostat, or the defrost timer. All relatively easy jobs. First unplug and defrost the freezer. Next, remove the panel in the back (inside) of the freezer to expose the evaporator. The heater is normally at the bottom of the evaporator and is encased in a glass tube. If it is broken at one or both end(s), or looks smoky or burnt at the end(s), like a burnt out flourescent light tube, replace it. Post what you find. Part number: AP3885937
