Finally got my refrig sitting on an island in the Bahamas working, and would like to thank everyone on this forum that were so helpful. I am now planning on bringing in a generator and was wondering if some could tell me the watts usage (startup and running) on this model? Think it was purchased in 1997-1998. Thanks again.

Long jack just looking at the model number I would say the highest wattage the refrigerator would be drawing is when it is in defrost cycle.I,am saying around 650 to 750 watts at that time, when defrosting.

Thanks Abbie. Although it's only I think 18 CF, that's a lot lower than I expected and will help in planning for a portable generator...

The circuit breaker on the generator should be able to put out a two to three second current surge above it's trip point rating.

richhappy - Could you elaborate? Need the smallest generator (wieght size) that will work for the refrig, so was thinking of one with a running wattage of 1800 and starting (max) wattage of 2250...does that fit your advice?

I just know your refrigerator will draw locked rotor current for a second or two, perhaps around 1000 watts rapidly falling as the compressor comes up to speed and generates back EMF. The generator circuit breaker should handle this surge without tripping.
