Recently, when my compressor kicks on, it sounds like an electric shaver. It runs for about 5-8 seconds i think, then turns off. Then a few minutes later the cycle repeats. The fan works. The fridge is not cooling much at all, and might not be cooling at all - its kinda recent so it might still be "warming up" inside, making it hard to tell if its even working slightly.
Is this pretty indicative that the compressor is shot? (or could it mean i am out of freon).?

I bought a new starter relay/capacitor and it worked for a day, got real cold and got a few cycles of ice out, and now the compressor is making the same noise and not working again. I shook the relay to see if it got fried, and i dont hear anything. I put the old capacitor back into the new relay, and its working again (for now, 7 hours).....what would cause it to work fine then poop out like this? Is it because the compressor is overworking the relay/capacitor because it has an internal problem?

You may want to measure the current drawn by the compressor while its running. If it's more than it suppose to be (it should be written on the refrigerator or compressor name plate) then the compressor has to be replaced.
