I bought a GE Profile set that had been used for display only in a model home. They are several years old but had never been used. The washer is great but the dryer gets too hot. Anything soft and fuzzy gets melted spots where it hits the back wall of the dryer. I have even burned my fingers on the back wall reaching into the dryer. This is on the lowest heat setting. I replaced the thermostat but that did not fix the problem. I am confident it is not the venting but don't have a clue what else could be causing the problem. I am very frustrated because I am sure this would have been covered under warranty if I had purchased the machines from a retailer.

Sounds like a stuck thermostat or thermal fuse. Best to replace all of them.
