Detergent had been put into fabric softener dispenser cup since the machine was new (--some people do not read directions, I guess). Now the center post below the fabric softener dispensing cup does not seem to empty, like it did before. The machine has been run multiple times with nothing added, but the center post will not empty. Now that we (she) knows to put only fabric softener in the center, and detergent into the tub directly, this problem should not recur, but how do we get the "stuff" out of there now ?

A set screw holds the agitator in place. Remove it and pull off the agitator (may be hard because of all that soap so be careful it does not let go suddenly and smack you). Clean it out.

Here is the parts diagram with your agitator.

Thanks ... I will try your approach shortly. I assume you mean the screw called "SCREW WA" Part number = AP4024448. It's not a set screw, 'cause it has a head, but it seems to be what you're talking about.

Again, thanks ! !
