My uncle was installing his new cook top after I finished the trim work and he somehow hooked the wiring up wrong. This unit has the black, red, green and white wires. The cook top that came out was 40 years old and just had the red, black and green. Of course he thought he needed to hook the white wire up to the black. When he hit the power button had a big pop and flash of light from under counter and blew the breaker. Before I have to get involved and take the thing apart, any idea what migh have blown???

Thanks, Phil

Can’t be 100% sure without examining it,
But a One possibility would be the electronic control
board. The electronic controller itself actually runs off
off of 120 volts. So when you hooked it up wrong it
would have shot double (or 240) volts through it instead.

I called Thermador and we are running a neutral leg from the box tonight, though it is probably too late. I'm trying to understand this but isn't the neutral (white) wire hooked up to the ground bar?? Why would we need to run a dedicated neutral leg if it is to ground anyway? He shoulda just waited, I guess at 75 an education still costs:D
