Whirlpool Dryer -- is the entire heating element supposed to light up? I have blown my thermal fuse twice -- noticed the heating element only turns red on part of it when it is running. Could there be a problem with the element -- or a thermostat that is causing the thermal fuse to blow?

Disconnect the terminals to the element from the wires. See if there is any continuity between either terminal and the body of the housing, or chassis ground. If there is, replace the element.
