Attempting to remove dryer top to clean inside. It appears top has to come off before front can be removed. On other dryers have always puled lid forward and then raised. This top will not move forward and cannot open.

Found answer browsing through posts. Problem solved. The front does come off first.:)

Normally that is the case, but on these Maytag dryer you take the front off first. You do this by taking out the four screws, two that hold the door, two on the opposite side. You can then pull off the "goalpost" type front which will let you get to the screws that hold the rest of the front and the top on.

This service manual will take you through the process in detail.
