I have a 7 year old whirlpool ET8GHMXLQ01 top freezer refrigerator that is not working properly. It stays warm the whole time, everything runs, no noise or humming, and no clicking sound. I was able to replace the Start-device combination (start relay and overload for production compressor only) and still stayed warm. The new start device also has a rattling sound and I called their office and said that this was normal for this model. I suspect that this trouble happened when there was a 5 minute power surge. I also inspected the back panel of the freezer and everything looked good. I need help please on how to diagnose and repair this refrigerator because I don't want to spend and I'm moving to a small apartment next month. Thanks in advance.

Was the new start device the same device the factory used, or a substitute?

Get a meter and check your compressor windings, probably blown out.
