If I measure the resistance of an igniter for a gas dryer should it show continuity if the igniter is good. When I examine it with a magnifying glass a can't see a crack or fracture in the igniter coil, but it shows open. Is this normal? Does a good(new) igniter show continuity. Don't want to buy a new one if this one is good. I expected to at least see a hairline fracture in the igniter coil, but didn't find one.

If the igniter fails to glow, the gas valve coils show continuity and the assembly has voltage to it, replace the igniter.
