I replaced the defrost timer and thermostat in my refrigerator, but the frost still builds up in the freezer and causes the refrigerator to not be cold. I think I may have put the black wire of the defrost timer on the wrong terminal and it doesn't work properly. I've tried it on three different terminals and it hasn't solved the problem. Can you help me?

Here is the tech sheet that comes up when I use the given model number.
It does not show a black wire going to the timer.
Check under the unit to see if the tech sheet that should have come with the unit is there.

You may have to trace the wires back to figure out which goes where.

Be very careful where you attach things as you could end up with a dead short and a lot of sparks, smoke and damage.

Hi, thanks for your reply. The replacement part that I ordered from appliancepartspros has the black wire and I thought I followed the instructions and put it on the right terminal but I still have defrost problems. (I threw away the original timer and the instructions that came with the new one. That's why I need help.) This morning I defrosted the freezer and put the wire of the defrost timer on the only terminal I hadn't tried. If the timer is still good, maybe this will do the trick.

Thanks again for your reply. The instructions were exactly what I needed. I had the wire connected properly to begin with and I need to change it back. If it doesn't defrost properly this time, I guess I'll have to get a new timer. Will keep you posted.

First I would remove the evaporator cover.

Then manually turn the defrost timer till the compressor and fans shut off.
You are now in defrost mode.
Check to see if the defrost heater comes on.
Be careful you do not burn your fingers.
If it does then the timer is toast.
Note the unit has to be frozen over as the defrost thermostat opens just above freezing

If not then it could be the defrost heater or defrost thermostat.
Could also be the defrost timer but more likely one of the above two.

I had tried the procedure you described and the defrost heater did come on. Guess the timer is bad. Will order a new one and see if that fixes the problem.
Thanks again for you help.
