First time poster...need help. // Unit began running warm a few weeks ago. Acting as if it was defrosting. Thoroughly cleaned coils, etc., thinking it wasn't cooling properly. Ran great for the next 1-3 days, then got worse than before. All food and frozen items thawed over approx.6-8 hours. Frustrated, while staring into the fridge side, w/ my hand resting on the top right corner (near the door), I firmly (but not hard), slapped the top. To my amazement...it began running. Took front temp setting panel off but no disconnected/frayed wires. Broke down...called for service. Service tech stated it was control unit (which is located underneath same spot I "slapped". He never got back to me w/ estimate so I ordered from this site. Part arrived and was installed, BUT no change. Both sides run when area where control unit/computer board is is lightly tapped, but will not cycle and maintain temp. Temps will drop to around 60 in fridge, 20-25 in freezer. Can someone guide me to a solution? Thx in advance... ZB

Here are your parts Replacement parts for WHIRLPOOL ED5FHEXTB00 Refrigerator | AppliancePartsPros.comFrustrated, while staring into the fridge side, w/ my hand resting on the top right corner (near the door), I firmly (but not hard), slapped the top. If you had a defrost control board problem (stuck in defrost), it also would have been off. Service tech stated it was control unit (which is located underneath same spot I "slapped". Can someone guide me to a solution? Depends on the symptoms and what device you have already replaced. Also I currently cannot get a wiring diagram for this unit which would be helpful perhaps I will have better luck later. |

Still, runs sparatically even after new control board. And still can be coaxed to run with lite tap on exterior, top, right hand side. Can someone guide me to a solution? You never answered which exact control was replaced by technician. there are three controls in that section of the refrigerator. Two have knobs to adjust temperature, the third is a defrost control. If you replaced the knobbed control on the left, that is the damper control, and you replaced the wrong part. If you replaced the knobbed control on the right, that is the actual temperature cold control, this is a very common failure, but if that was changed, you likely have a bad adaptive defrost control. Be careful when replacing this part, as it is highly sensitive to static electricity.

The Defrost Control Board (Item 6) in Section 11 (of the parts diagram for my fridge) was the only part has has been replaced (to date).
