My Kenmore dryer is not heating up like it should. I checked the heating element with a digital multimeter but I am not shure I know where to place the probes of the multimeter. I think I am in the right spot but I am not sure. I get no reading on the multimeter. Can anyone explain to me wherre the probes are held to check the heating element?

Also, I pulled the element out of the duct to check it and the top half of the panal behind the coils on the element are discolored. The bottom half of it is the original silver color.

Note: Always undo at least one wire from any device you are measuring for ohms. This prevents you from reading an alternate/parallel circuit path.

I get no reading on the terminals for the heating element. Does that mean it is burned out? Also, there is a thermosat conected to the heating element (part #3977767). Is there any reason to replace this? I get a reading of around 1.5 to 1.0 on this.

Yes, sounds like it needs replacing.

1 ohm does seem a little high.
Could be just a meter offset re: 0 is not set right at 0.
What is the reading when you short the meter leads together?
If it is 0 then I would also replace this thermostat, just to be sure it will not cause problems in the future.
