Hi Gene,

My GE side by side fridge had some major frost in the freezer. It was only the top 2 shelf. Wife didn't tell me till the major frost occurred. It was all over the top (side and rear walls, shelf, food). Temp on the freezer was 16 and 40 on the fridge. She noticed it frosting up a few days ago but didn't think anything of it.

So far I've removed all items from the freezer and defrosted it. Evap motor is running fine, compressor running fine, coils free of dust and coil fan running fine. It's been running for about 12 hrs now and the temp is normal so far. Freezer at 2 and fridge at 37. Noticed evap motor is running when the freezer door is open. I thought it usually turns off when the door is open. Not sure if it's because the freezer temp is not at 0 yet.

Please let me know what you think the issue is. So far in the past 7 yrs. we've had it, the evap motor was replaced twice, main board replaced and inverter was replaced.

Well it's been almost 72 hrs. and everything seems to be ok. Just hope it stays that way. Will be filling the the freezer back with goods. I guess all it needed was a good defrost.
